University Lecturer in Visual Education

The subject of Visual Arts at Dalarna University belongs to the Department of Culture and Society and offers courses within the programs for primary and subject teachers as well as freestanding courses. All courses include elements of visual expression, art theory, and subject didactics. The Visual Arts subject is also a resource for other programs at Dalarna University. Your Workday as a University Lecturer

You will work with teaching and supervision within the undergraduate education. Teaching at Dalarna University is conducted both on-campus and online. An important part of the role is also to continuously work on the development of courses and education as an examiner or course coordinator. You will become part of the visual education research environment. Management and administrative tasks are included in the position.

Are You the Person We Are Looking For?

For this position, a PhD in visual education, art and visual studies, or in educational work, didactics, or pedagogy with a focus on visual education is required.

A teaching degree and teaching experience from primary or secondary school is meritorious. Furthermore, experience in teaching within teacher education, experience in teaching at the doctoral level, and supervision of doctoral students are also meritorious.

You should have a good ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in both Swedish and English. A large part of the work is done in teams and in collaboration with the surrounding community, which requires good collaboration skills, initiative, a high degree of independence, and responsibility for the position. Good leadership and administrative skills are also considered in the hiring process.

According to the Higher Education Ordinance and Employment Ordinance, the person qualified for employment as a university lecturer in areas other than artistic activities must have demonstrated pedagogical skills, have a PhD or equivalent scientific competence, or possess other professional skills that are significant in relation to the subject content of the position and the tasks included in the position. Scientific and pedagogical skills are assessed according to the given criteria in the employment ordinance.

Assessment Criteria

The university will, in this recruitment, consider the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment of scientific and pedagogical skills as well as other qualifications relevant to the position, is deemed to have the best conditions to fulfill the tasks of the position.

Equal care will be given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills according to HF chapter 4. A pedagogical test is likely to be applied. In the case of permanent employment as a university lecturer, an expert assessment of the candidates' qualifications and skills will be conducted.
